Trekked out east to try Bar Seco and celebrate Pia Riverola’s new book, Días. Bar Seco is a gorgeous, tiny jewel box of a boîte, something I wish we had more of on the Westside (please, no more pizza-and-spritz restaurants. You are delicious but we have enough!!!)
Speaking of wine, I tried this Deux Punx orange wine while dining at Queen St. (the seafood is the star but don’t sleep on the pork chop) and was delighted. I automatically rule out anything chardonnay but lesson learnt!
This Birichino pet nat is also excellent and more-than-lightly effervescent which is my preference.
Forever a sucker for cowgirl iconography// a Monterrey gem I finally got around to renewing my library card and picked up “Wildcat” by Amelia Morris. Will report back (yes, the cover got me).
Call me Angie K because I’ve been rinse and repeating this avoglemono soup recipe heavily - I do three egg yolks instead of two because I like living on the edge (enjoy the extra creaminess).
Soup season // how I feel making said soup Temps dropping = more time in my copper tub. I’ve been doing a blend of Epsom salts with this Alo magnesium bath soak.
Binged English Teacher. I first fell in love with Brian Jordan Alvarez’s impression of your rich Southern aunt (this guy’s great too, you’ve def met him at Great White), and it’s very cool to see him getting his well-deserved flowers.
Got a Hydrate + Glow facial at Formula Fig (thanks to my angel friend Jess for the gift). I’ve given up on physical exfoliants (even though I miss the instant, sadistic gratification) but the microdermabrasion and lymphatic massage made my face feel like a gorgeous, sculpted peach.
Rewatching old Pink Panther episodes - "Come on In! The Water's Pink" and “Psychedelic Pink” are great places to start for anyone new to the oeuvre…
…and watching Drops of God, which is only amplifying my desire to get back to Paris (and now Tokyo) asap. There’s wine, there’s intrigue, there’s family drama. A show that forces me to focus without my smaller screen in hand? Trust me, you’re in.
These Chloe flats are on my wishlist. 61 days till Christmas/134 till March 8 but who’s counting? I can be patient 😇
RenadfromGaza - the Middle East is mostly portrayed by western media as a dangerous, barren wasteland, when the reality is that it’s full of people like Renad, determined to live their lives with dignity and grace. Renad (age 10, 10!) regularly posts videos of her cooking that are full of joy, enthusiasm and hope. When I think about my biggest concerns at that age (I was pressed to find a mesh tank top that’d match my freshly streaked green hair), I’m humbled and in awe of the resilience of all Gazans (of all ages) resisting by living their lives fully under the most unspeakable conditions.
In some personal news, I’ve broken up with my highlights and gone to the dark side.
Take this as your sign to have a chocolatey little treat - bye!
Love!!
